Jack’s Journey: Treating FIP and IMHA with Advanced Veterinary Care

When Nico and Kinsey brought their kitten, Jack, to Colorado State University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital, he was critically ill. He presented with severe anemia, high inflammatory markers, and other signs that pointed to a serious underlying condition. After diagnostic testing, Jack was diagnosed with feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) and immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA)—two complex conditions.

Under the care of Board-Certified Small Animal Internal Medicine specialist, Petra Cerna, and Resident, Yuvani Bandara, Jack began treatment using a new medication called Bova GS-441524 created in collaboration with Stokes Pharmacy and Bova, an innovative and effective therapy that has changed the outlook for cats with FIP. Managing IMHA alongside FIP added complexity to his care, requiring close monitoring and ongoing adjustments to his treatment plan.

With coordinated veterinary support and ongoing care at home from his devoted owners, Jack responded well to treatment. He is now off medication and in his observation period—a critical phase that will help determine his long-term outcome.
